Inspired by my Allotment
My allotment is my sanctuary when in the city – it literally keeps me sane! I grow my own vegetables and flowers as time permits – but often escape to my shed and make a cup of tea to dream about and create new pattern collections. I am surrounded by plants, wildlife, birds and insects … all of which inspire my artwork.
Inspired by Islamic art
I have always been in awe of Islamic art and how it manifests a deeper unifying coherence and structure found in nature. More recently I have begun studying Islamic art on a practical level from the intricacies of Islamic geometry to the unfolding patterns found in biomorphic design and Persian miniature art.

I am Kate, a UK-based surface pattern designer who loves the sea, gardening and my shed (see opposite)!
Before dedicating myself more fully to a creative path I worked for many years in the mental health field as a counselling psychologist. My experiences gave me insight into the immense therapeutic benefits of the natural world, creativity and the importance of childhood. These are issues that I am passionate about they undoubtedly influence my creative designs and work at a deeper level.
Inspired by the Sea
My designs are influenced by my love for and connection to the sea – it’s wildness and call to adventure. I grew up on a farm in Cornwall and now share a Croft with family in Shetland – so I have attachments from the most southerly to the most northerly realms of the UK coastline.
